The Texas Two-Step Oilspots are a specialized series that use pairs of glazes to create unique effects. Anywhere that one of the five overcoats is laid on top of Licorice, Coffee Bean, or Brick Red, a stunning spotted pattern will appear during firing. Thicker applications lead to bigger spots. Try using wax resist after the first layer to create negative space designs.
Coyote's Texas Two-Step glazes are a two-part system. Each glaze, by itself, appears as a glossy or (sometimes) slightly mottled color, solid and non-breaking. Layering the Step One Undercoats with Step Two Overcoats produces spectacular oilspot effects. All the overcoats are compatible with all the undercoats, opening new worlds of possility for your pieces! The samples below show the undercoat and overcoat colors, and then some combinations with three of undercoats. Thicker coats result in bigger oilspots. These tiles were made by brushing three coats of each glaze, allowing each coat to dry and alternating the direction of the coats. The glazes can also be applied by dipping: dip once in your undercoat color, allow to dry, and dip once in your overcoat.
